Transpiration is the natural process of water moving through an organism and its absorption by other parts. Water is needed for all plants to survive but only a very small amount of water absorbed by the leaves is utilized for metabolism and growth. The rest is lost through transpiration and intestinal digestion. Plants have roots that absorb water in the soil and transport it to the leaves where it is absorbed by photosynthesis.

Water movement through the earth’s system is what is transpired. Transpiration must be efficient if plants are to grow and flourish. If transpiration does not occur the plants will become malnourished and die. If the water cycle is not complete, the plants will not grow to their potential, hence, less food production and limited number of fruits and vegetables.

Evaporation and transpiration both take place in a transpiring world. In a drier environment evaporation takes place continuously. Leaves drop off, the soil becomes compacted, the vegetation sheds and new growth come up. This process takes place continually. The leaves then fall to the ground where insects feed on them and other pests suck up the nutrients that remain. The process of transpiration then takes place where the leaves and other matter are taken to the root for storage and drying.

When the leaves take on water vapor in the process of photosynthesis takes place and the plants are able to produce food. Photosynthesis requires carbon and other compounds that are essential to the process. During evaporation the process of photosynthesis and the generation of food take place continuously. The leaves and other matter that have dropped from the trees are taken to the root for storage and later on they are dried up and used for re-growth.

Evaporation and transpiration are essential in the life of plants and all other creatures on earth. It is what takes place when the leaves and other matter that has been taken to the root for storage is dried up and the plants and other organisms continue to grow. A plant does not exist without either of these processes. Plants cannot exist without water vapor and as everything on earth is composed of water, plants must have some water to survive. Without the evaporation process there would be no place for the plants to take root and grow.

There are many factors affecting transpiration rate. Some of these factors are sunlight, wind and the presence of clouds. When it comes to sunlight the factors that affect transpiration rate are the length of time the rays are exposed to the soil, the amount of direct sunlight that falls on the soil and the duration of the day. This is why it is important to plant your garden at the right time of the day. On the other hand, if you plant your garden in the evening or during a cloudy day, it is more likely that there will be less sun hitting the plants and this will result in less transpiration rate. In order to know what is transpiration rate you can either do a simple test or you can use the greenhouse method.

The greenhouse method uses a thermometer known as a barometer, which measures the amount of heat accumulated by the plants. The infrared camera attached to the thermometer takes pictures of the heat accumulated by the leaves and the stomata and after this data is recorded it is shown on the computer screen. You can see the heat patterns and depending on the height of the plants and the size of the leaves you can determine the evaporation rate. This is basically a process whereby the plants are drying up and getting their moisture removed from the soil. Evaporation is a continuous process and takes place throughout the year.

The average transpiration rate for a living plant is 5 feet for every one inch of leaf diameter. The canopy leaves or the showa leaves take up the bulk of the water that evaporates from the soil. Under high pressure conditions, the thinnest part of the canopy leaves and the Showa leaves will often appear black. This is because the black color of the leaves is due to the evaporation of water from the soil. Under normal conditions the leaves should be pale yellow.
