What is Initiative

136

Initiative is one of those buzzwords that everyone says they use but really mean nothing. In my opinion, the initiative should be capitalized on whenever you can use it. I like to think of it as ‘fuel’. If you fill your car with good fuel, it runs a lot better. If you fill your brain with good information, you are more creative. If you want to be successful, you need to put the initiative into action!

According to Napoleon Hill, ‘Initiation is simply the first step; the follow-through is second.’ (ouses).

So, It’s the ability to start something, the power to act on something, and then the confidence in doing it. I think the most important part of the initiative is ‘action’. You see, in order to be successful there must be something for you to act upon. For example, if you have the potential to make a lot of money, but you never take the action required to realize that potential, how will you ever achieve success?

What is initiative, then, and how do you develop initiative? The first step to take is to acknowledge that you have the potential to achieve something, then put aside any fear of not acting on this potential. Next, you have to define what ‘being the first’ is for you, whatever that may be. Here is where many people go wrong; they assume that ‘first’ means first thing first, but what I am talking about here is becoming first, so to speak.

What is initiative then, if nothing is ever done? Well, the answer is simple: failure. If you do not follow up or even attempt to follow up, you are not taking the necessary steps needed to achieve your desired result. So, the key to what is initiative is to begin with what you want, and then do everything possible within your power to make that result happen. In this way, you are truly living the dream.

I know what you are thinking: how can I put this into practice? That is an excellent question. It is impossible to tell exactly what actions you need to take in order to create the results you want in a given situation, unless you are willing to take the steps necessary to make them happen. Thus, in order to know what is initiative, you must first put yourself in the shoes of someone else who already has the results you desire. Then translate these actions into words.

What is initiative then, if you do not take the necessary action? When you don’t take the necessary action, you will never know whether your desired result was attained because you did not take the appropriate steps required to make it happen. Put yourself in the position of someone else who has already achieved what you want. What is initiative then?

Initiative is something that is always present, ready to be used and to make things happen. What is initiative then? Initiative is your dream being realized. Live your dream by taking the first steps.

In every dream, there is always something to strive for. There is always a first step to take. This first step is taking action. What is the first step? It is always the most difficult part of any task. You may think it is easy but once you get started on it, you will soon find out that it is not as easy as you thought.

You know that the obstacles are always right behind you so you must expect them. However, you can be prepared for them. Be ready to take the first step.

In the book, Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill tells readers that when they want something, they begin to visualize it in their minds. He says this works because the vision is everything that you want. What is initiative then? Inventiveness. The ability to imagine something different and better than anything that has been done before. To look at something from an entirely new perspective and create something different and better.

One thing that is important to remember when asking yourself, “What is the initiative?” is that you have to take an initial action before you can dream. Without taking an initial action, you can’t dream. If you want your dream to come true, you must take an action. Creating something better or more ideal than anything that has been done before doesn’t necessarily mean working hard. It just means seeing the world differently.
