What Is Current


If you’re interested in knowing what is current today, you need to first understand what current is. Although the definition may vary slightly from one source to another, generally speaking current is the amount of energy that moves from a point A to a point B in a defined period of time. For example, when a fire burns, the amount of heat that rises and what is termed radiant heat is current. Moving air through a turbine is current as well.

While the flashlight’s beam can be seen in a single glance, the amount of current that is flowing through the wire at any given time can change drastically. To clarify, a positive current refers to a situation where the flow of electricity is in the forward direction. Conversely, a current is considered to be in the reverse direction when it opposes the current. A negative current on the other hand, occurs when the flow of electricity is going against the current. A small example of a voltage source is a battery. A battery can be considered to be powered by electricity when it is charged to its full capacity; this is known as being fully charged.
